Let’s admit it, when we start blogging, we want to earn from it. I mean who doesn’t want to earn from their art. There lies such freedom in earning from what you love doing.

If you want to start this journey, I did a post on my journey and how you too can start. Read here and here.

I asked Sarah – who already earns from blogging – to advice me and you. Her blog site link – https://nderisarah.com/

A little Intro

There is no one single way to earn from blogging. I believe that with innovation, research, giving value and filling in the gaps in the market, one can find ways to earn from blogging.

Blogging has often been seen as a way to make quick money, but it isn’t. It involves hours of writing content, marketing content, managing social media profiles, connecting with brands and bloggers among other things. In addition, it might require you to wear many hats such as being a writer, web developer, copywriter, email marketer, graphic designer and any other role that requires your attention.

Focus On Giving Values and Building An Audience

If you provide value, people will keep trickling back. So what solution do you aim to solve with your blog? Communicate a clear purpose in your pages and within your posts while being consistent. Only then can you get the numbers.

To make good money from blogging, aim to first acquire 25,000 pageviews a month. Higher traffic means higher conversion rates.

Research On Best Ways To Earn From Your Site

Here are several ways in which you can make money from your site;

  • Selling Ad Space.
  • Affiliate marketing.
  • Sponsored content.
  • Google Ads.
  • Locked Content. Direct Donations. Locked Newsletters.
  • Selling your own Wares.

Selling Ad Space

Sell ad space to companies and brands who would wish to reach your audience. More often than not, this will require you to call or email brands whose purpose is in line with your blog’s purpose. You can choose to have banner ads and design the header of your blog to accommodate banners and let that be your ad space.

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is selling products from other brands through special UTMed link. Choose products that you have tried and can give quality information on and the advantages and disadvantages of using such products. Otherwise, you might damage your brand’s name should a product recommended by you be found wanting. In Kenya, you can be a Jumia Affiliate. Other affiliate sites include impact radius, but you need a high number of traffic to get in.

Sponsored Content

Sponsored content is content paid for by a brand. They pay for an article but you have to link it back to their site. This is usually part of marketing on the brand’s side and would require you to contact the marketing executive of the brand you wish to work with.

Alternatively, you can join companies that connect bloggers with brands. Even though you don’t have a wide audience on your site; it is possible to make some money. One of such companies is Get Blogged. Get blogged assigns opportunities to bloggers. The opportunities are in domain authority categories. If an opportunity is under DA5, that means bloggers whose domain authority is 5 can apply.

My blog has a domain authority of 10, so I usually apply for opportunities with DA 5+, and DA 10+. Get blogged has more opportunities for earning, joining a community of bloggers knowing your domain authority and building it. To get started, click here.

So far, this is the only company that I use since I am still growing my audience.

Google Adsense

If you are still building an audience Google Adsense is the way to go. Payouts occur when you get to a threshold of 72 pounds. This morning I celebrated because I hit a major milestone; I earned a pound and seven cents. This is about 133 Kenya Shillings and the most that my blog has earned passively. I am still trying to build my audience, and I average 700 views from my 7-month-old blog.

If you get to 25,000 pageviews, try getting into media vine. They have higher ad payouts than Google Adsense.

Milestones Worth Considering When Trying To Earn From Blogging

Making any money at all: $ 1 a month – I just did. Woot, woot!

Making an amount worth talking about – $ 500 a month.

Making a living – $ 1,000 a month

Making a lot of money – $ 2000 a month

Right now I am trying to figure out how to earn $100 and when I do, I will let you in on how you too can do the same.

Locked Content

Locking content is a great way to build email subscribers or earning from your site. When it comes to building your email lists, you can allow readers to read halfway through and then require them to subscribe to continue reading. Locking content in order to earn is a method used by The New York Times, Medium and other bloggers to earns from their sites while building an email list.

To do this, ensure your content has value. Else no one will subscribe.

Selling Your Own Wares

Bloggers sell courses, ebooks, sign book deals and so much more. You can promote your ebook/book, your course or any other product that you have on your site.

There are other ways such as sponsored social media posts that one can try especially if you have a large following or are good at social media.

Woah! I’m really loving the template/theme of this blog.
It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s very hard to get
that “perfect balance” between superb usability and visual appearance.
I must say you have done a great job with this. Also, the blog loads super fast for me
on Opera. Superb Blog!

I’m curious to find out what blog system you’re using?
I’m having some small security problems with my latest blog and I’d like
to find something more safeguarded. Do you have any suggestions?

Hey Shantel,
I’ve been using WordPress since I started blogging and it’s served me well. Give it a go.
