Happy New Month!. I don’t know why, but I am particularly excited for this new month. I feel amazing and I feel good tidings making their way to me.

My first article of May 2021: A review of my current favorite comedy series; How I met your mother.

I always like to have a series that is fire keeping me awake. One that I will happily watch over lunch or on the ride home.

I love comedy series. They make life a little lighter. I don’t recall when I started watching how I met your mother but I know it’s taken me a while to finish till season 9 episode 24.

Mostly because I watched it in the nights and ended up blacking out 10mins into the series. Then having to rewind it every time.

Towards the end, I got so attached to it and didn’t want to finish it. I finished it on an easy Sunday morning. And boy did I cry loads. On Robin’s wedding to Barney especially. And I felt mad. Because years later, they had to remove Ted’s wife for him to end up with Robin. I often felt mad at Robin for her inability to choose who to settle for between Barney and Ted.

Here’s the setting of how I met your mother..

It is a story. A story of how Ted met his ‘the one’. He narrates the story to his son and daughter. It starts in college. He believes in destiny. That everything that happened since college led him to meeting ‘the one’.

Enter Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) and Marshall Erickson (Jason Segel)

Ted Mosby and Marshall Erickson are college roommates. They eventually become close friends.

Enter Lily Adrian (Alyson Hannigan)

Lily Adrian, who lives across the hall from them likes Marshall. So she designs a plan to meet him. They start dating. Her relationship with Marshall is what the friends admire.

Enter Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris)

While Ted is chilling at a bar, he meets Barney Stinson. Barney shows him the way around with the ladies. Barney even has a playbook and tries the cheekiest lines on girls. Most of them work. I like the tag “Haave you met Ted” and “Legen – wait for it – dary”.

Enter Robin Schebasky (Cobie Smulders)

The crew hangs out at Mclarens bar often. So while the four of them drink the night away, a girl walks in. Robin Schebasky. Ted immediately falls for her. Ted is a hopeless romantic. On their first date, he tells her he loves her. This makes a joke of the year for the crew.

They don’t work out and she joins the crew of friends.

It’s a spiral of laughter, tears, lots of puns and jokes, break-ups, make-ups, career choices, moving houses, being there for one another, getting babies. And slaps. Ask Barney.

As much as I enjoyed the series;

I just wouldn’t advocate for Barney’s view of women.

And, I also didn’t like the way they glorified having a partner and being miserable without one. Ted portrayed this. It’s like his whole life revolved around finding “the one”.

Robin chose to not have children. And that is fine. It is supposed to be a personal decision.

How I met your mother was released between 2005-2014. Have you watched it? Did you enjoy it? What was your opinion of it?

I played the trivia questions on buzzroom.com. I scored all right except one. Then I tried howstuffworks.com and scored 80/100. I just might make it a thing to do trivia questions after completing a series. So the memories can stay with me longer.

I loved watching How I Met Your Mother until I found out what happened to Ted’s wife. I just couldn’t complete it after that. But it still remains one of my favourite TV comedy shows.

Hey Amarachi,
So excited you visited my site 🙂

I also felt that that ending was so unnecessary. *huge sigh*
Either way, the rest of it was an interesting and fun run
