We leave Nairobi at 5:08 AM. It is always a breath of fresh air when clients arrive on time and we get on with the day’s activities.
A team of 8, we drive on to the most famous hiking destination in Kenya; the Aberdares Ranges. Our goal is to conquer Mt. Kipipiri.
After a 3 hours drive, we arrive at the Geta Kenya Forest Station offices. Here we meet with two other groups who are here to conquer Mt. Kipipiri. We pay our specific park fees and ranger fees and receive a brief from the head of the station. Each of the groups is assigned a ranger and off we are to explore the beautiful forest.
I had asked someone how Kipipiri was for them and they described it as a long boring walk. Lol. It is true. Kipipiri is a long walk; you will hardly run out of breath unless you are running up the hill. But if you are like me – I walk slowly as I take it all in – you will enjoy uninterrupted exploration. So trust Kipipiri to be a long walk where you can meditate. The 13.5Km ascent takes us about 5 hours.
The 5Km descent is friendly and short. It is a different route from the ascent one and it takes us 1 hour.
The weather is perfect – a little bit more on the hot side. Perfect time to summit any high-altitude mountains and enjoy the clear views from above.
Is the hike beginner friendly? Yes. As long as you can walk 18Kms 🙂
I had amazing company while on the hike courtesy of my hiking company Mona Trails. It’s been a good run and I am excited for what the future holds.
Join me on my next hike;
